Several schools in Noida received bomb threats on Wednesday, triggering panic during the ongoing CBSE examinations. According to officials, threatening emails were sent to more than a dozen schools while students were appearing for their board exams. The emails warned of explosives on the premises, prompting immediate action by authorities. Police teams rushed to the affected schools and launched thorough checking and frisking operations.
Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were also deployed as part of the security sweep. Authorities said precautionary measures were being taken to ensure the safety of students and staff. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the emails.
Last week, on Friday, February 15, six individuals were arrested in connection with bomb threat emails sent to 20 schools in Noida last month. According to investigators, the threatening emails - which initially appeared to originate from servers in the US - were eventually traced to a residence in Bisrakh, Greater Noida. Police said that the accused were operating an illegal online betting racket using fabricated email accounts and VoIP (Vocie over Internet Protocol) numbers
On January 23, about 20 schools in Noida received bomb threat emails. With Republic Day approaching at the time, senior officers held extensive searches across school campuses with bomb disposal squads, dog squads and fire department teams. The alerts were later declared as hoaxes.
To track the source of the emails, authorities registered a case at Surajpur police station under sections 351(4) (criminal intimidation) and 353(4)(b) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act.
Authorities seized multiple electronic devices and documents from the premises, including four laptops, 22 mobile phones, 16 debit and credit cards, two Nepalese passports, identity documents, a chequebook and Rs 19,500 in cash.
