Social media users voiced strong reactions after the family of Donald Trump filed trademark applications linked to airport names, with many criticising the idea and questioning its purpose. One user wrote, “Any airport with Trump’s name on it should be closed," while another commented, “Is it safe to have Trump’s name on an airport? I don’t think so."

Some users raised concerns about potential public costs.

“So now I’m sure taxpayer dollars will somehow be used to rename and rebrand an airport. Think of the amount of money needed just for new letterheads- all for one man’s ego," a post read.

Others questioned the public mandate behind such a move.

“More things absolutely no one voted for, but people will just let him do it because… reasons," a user said.

“Why not"..he feels he can do anything he wants…while the GOP Congress and SCOTUS have completely abdicated their constitutional duties, he haspic.twitter.com/g6CxRdsjdO— EJW (@TedWilcox7)February 10, 2026

Criticism also focused on motives as a user wrote, “The question is, why should we waste taxpayer money on this petty move? Why does he need his name on everything?"

A sixth user added, “Legacy isn’t forced on people. Legacy is earned. Trump clearly doesn’t deserve that honour, and that’s why he is trying to honour himself."

Legacy isn’t forced on the people, legacy is earned, legacy is an honour bestowed on deserving recipients. Trump clearly doesn’t deserve that honour, and that’s why he is trying everything to honor himself against the wishes of the people.— Barista Jagger (@BaristaJagger)February 10, 2026

The reactions came after trademark filings by the Trump Organization sought to secure exclusive rights to names such as “Donald J. Trump International Airport" and similar branding. According to the filings, the trademarks cover not only airport naming rights but also related merchandise and services, including transportation, apparel and promotional items.
