The iconic look of Air Force One is getting a major update. The presidential jet and several other planes used by top U.S. officials will soon feature a new color scheme that includes gold, one of President Donald Trump’s favorite colors for the White House and his hotels. The US Air Force confirmed the change while the aircraft undergo routine repairs and maintenance. The new palette combines gold, deep red, and navy blue.
The white, blue, and robin’s egg blue design has been the standard since the 1960s, introduced during John F. Kennedy’s presidency. Trump has pushed for a different appearance since his first term. President Joe Biden later cancelled those earlier plans.
The new colors have already appeared on model planes displayed at the White House. Trump has also added his personal touch to the building with plans for a large new ballroom and gold-colored signs in a distinctive curling font. The same color combination was used on the private Boeing 757 Trump flew during his 2024 campaign, often nicknamed “Trump Force One.”
Any aircraft carrying the president is officially called Air Force One. The main jets are specially built Boeing 747s equipped with an office, bedroom suite, two kitchens that can prepare 100 meals, conference space, and a medical facility.
