White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will deliver a press briefing this afternoon amid the ongoing DHS funding fight in Congress and upcoming votes on the SAVE America Act, which would require voters to provide proof of citizenship and Voter ID.

This comes amid a partial government shutdown as Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the Department of Homeland Security in opposition to ICE’s deportation of illegal aliens.

As The Gateway Punditreported, the government entered a partial shutdown on Friday after Senate Democrats refused to vote to fund the Department of Homeland Security.

Without DHS funding, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can still function largely uninterrupted. Still, other agencies, including the Coast Guard and Transportation Security Administration (TSA), will face disruption.

Meanwhile, the Senate is also considering the SAVE Act, whichpassedin the US House of Representatives last week. The legislation faces an uphill battle in the Senate, as not every GOP Senator is fully on board, and the entire Democratic Party opposes free and fair elections.

Ironically, Chuck Schumer lobbied for the same voter requirements as a House member in the 90s, but he now calls the measure “Jim Crow 2.0.”

The Senate must invoke a standing filibuster to pass the bill with only 51 votes, instead of the 3/5ths required under the current filibuster rule. But Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has said that the Senate is "not even close” to having enough votes.

Still, Trump hassignaledthat he will sign an executive order to require voter ID.

Leavitt is expected to speak about the SAVE Act, the ongoing government shutdown, and a range of other current events.
