A 65-year-old former employee of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been arrested for allegedly strangling his wife to death with a towel in theirBengaluruapartment, the police said. The incident happened around 11 am within the Avalahalli police station limits. The accused, Nageshwar Rao, was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression. He wanted to end his life after killing hiswife, according to the police.
After the alleged attack on his wife, Sandya Sri, Rao reportedly remained at the spot. He then contacted an acquaintance around 11 am and informed him about what he had done. The acquaintance then contacted a doctor known to the family.
The doctor then alerted the Avalahalli police, according to the police officer said.
"He was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and was distressed. He allegedly intended to take his life after the incident, which is why he attacked his wife. There appear to be no other major reasons," said Saidulu Adavath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield).
A team arrived at their residence in the Bommanhalli area of Whitefield and took Rao into police custody, the authorities stated.
The couple's daughter, who is in the US, has been informed about the incident and will be returning to Bengaluru, the police said. A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
The couple was originally from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and had been living in Bengaluru, Whitefield apartment for the past three years.
In another similar incident, a Bengaluru man shoots his wife dead in the middle of the road. The police later arrested a petty criminal named Maulesh, who is suspected of being involved in planning the murder of Balamurugan's wife, Bhuvaneshwari. During questioning, police reportedly learnt that Balamurugan had travelled to Salem in Tamil Nadu before the murder.
At a relative’s hotel in Salem, he met Maulesh and allegedly offered him large sums of money to get his wife murdered. Police believe a plan was discussed to kill Bhuvaneshwari at a location with no CCTV coverage, so the crime could be carried out without leaving evidence.
