Fire departments from Elmont, Garden City, New Hyde Park and Floral Park responded to a garage fire on Wednesday, June 3.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire so it would not spread to the rest of the property, located on Bellmore Street. The flames were put out by nearly 30firefightersand took about 20 minutes to suppress.

Officials said the Floral Park building department is assessing the garage for structural damage. The Nassau County Police Department and the fire marshal were notified.

The marshal’s office will be handling the case, but theNCPD arson squadwill not be taking part in the investigation. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire does not appear suspicious, according to the Floral Park Fire Department, and occurred after the homeowner left a bag of used rags by the garage entrance. The substance on the rags is unknown, but it ignited the front of the garage.
