The William Floyd United Teachers (WFUT) recently recognized members of the William Floyd High School Class of 2026 who have enlisted in the military and will be serving our nation after graduation. WFUT president Mike Devenney, along with William Paca Middle School teachers Kari Garfen and U.S. Navy veteran Jason Melito, met with high school principal Philip Scotto to present the students with gifts of appreciation for their upcoming service.
Each student received a T-shirt and sweatshirt featuring the district logo and the words“William Floyd Alumni”on the front with the emblem of their chosen military branch on the back.
The William Floyd High School students who have chosen to serve our country in the Armed Forces after graduation include:
“Fewer than one percent of Americans choose to enter the Armed Forces, making these students part of an elite group willing to answer the call to duty,” said Melito. “We are honored to recognize their commitment to our country.”
“It was a privilege to meet these students and learn about their future plans,” said Devenney. “We wish them every success and thank them for their dedication to our country.”
These same students were also honored for their upcoming service at the 11th annual “Our Community Salutes” Brookhaven recognition ceremony. They will also wear military sashes at graduation reflecting their branches of service.
