In a dramatic organisational reset, the All IndiaTrinamool Congress(TMC) on Wednesday dissolved all its committees inWest Bengal, along with every frontal organisation, with immediate effect. This comes amid mounting turbulence within the organisation following recent political setbacks and internal dissent.
In an official communication, the party announced that it would undertake a comprehensive exercise of introspection, performance review and organisational assessment at every level. Based on the outcome of that review, TMC said the organisational structure of both the parent party and its affiliated wings would be reconstituted and announced at a later date.
"The party remains committed to strengthening its organisation and preparing it to meet future challenges with renewed vigour and purpose," the statement said.
Party leaders are expected to conduct a top-to-bottom review of organisational performance, local leadership structures and political strategy before rebuilding the apparatus from the ground up.
While the party has not publicly elaborated on the reasons behind the move, the announcement comes at a time when TMC has been grappling with internal strains and growing questions about its organisational cohesion.
The restructuring follows a series of developments that have put the party under pressure.
Just days ago, TMC expelled MLAs Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee, accusing them of engaging in anti-party activities and making statements prejudicial to the party's interests. The expulsions came amid controversy surrounding allegations linked to a "fake signature" row in the West Bengal Assembly and growing signs of internal friction.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is battling fresh political turmoil after a group of rebel MLAs submitted a letter to West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindranath Bose reportedly claiming the support of 58 legislators and seeking recognition as a separate legislative group.
The letter, carrying the signatures of 58 MLAs, was submitted by the dissident camp led by expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee. Sources said the group has proposed Banerjee as the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly while continuing to recognise Mamata Banerjee as the leader of the party. The move marks the most significant challenge yet to the existing TMC leadership structure.
The development comes following the controversial signature-forgery row linked to the appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. TMC leaders Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha claimed that their signatures had been forged on the letter submitted to the Speaker in support of the appointment. The crisis worsened earlier this week when the TMC expelled for "alleged anti-party activities". Both leaders had been accused by the party of attempting to destabilise the organisation and maintaining contact with a large number of legislators.
