Mumbai woke up to light pre-monsoon showers on Wednesday (June 3), bringing relief from weeks of intense heat and humidity. Rainfall was reported from several parts of the city and suburbs, including Dadar, Sion, Kurla, Mulund, Borivali, Malad and Andheri. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane and several other districts in Maharashtra, forecasting light to moderate rainfall. The alert remains in place as weather conditions continue to remain favourable for showers.

However, even a brief spell of rain led to waterlogging at the Andheri Subway, forcing authorities to temporarily shut the stretch for vehicular traffic.

The incident has once again put the spotlight on Mumbai's recurring monsoon challenges despite pre-monsoon drainage and water-pumping measures undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

According to the IMD, Mumbai is expected to record a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The city is likely to witness partly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas.
