Imagine how ‘out-of-hand’ a situation might be if the internet ends up confusing it with an incident that might be unfolding inPakistan! A rather concerning and downright problematic video was recently shared on social media, which showed two women hiding behind a man, as a rather “unsafe-looking” crowd began to gather near the trio. Allegedly, the incident unfolded in a market area in Bihar’sHajipuron Sunday, February 15. Apart from the obvious tension in the air, what further made the incident eye-raising was the way the crowd was staring at the women.
Social media has seen quite a number of incidents where women were harassed and even groped by massive crowds; however, most of these headlines have mostly emerged from Pakistan. With that said, the internet was quick to assume that this video too was from the neighboring nation, it was only later that netizens realised that something like it occurred in India.
The video went viral in an instant, pulling all kinds of angry reactions. Most questioned the “safety status” of women in India, while others pointed out the “lack of civic sense” among the masses.
Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post.
“A viral video from Hajipur shows a young woman cornered in a crowded marketplace as a group of men gather around her, stare aggressively, and shout, forcing her to hide behind a relative for safety. The incident reportedly occurred on Shivratri,” the post read.
The video was shared on Instagram by the handle ‘Echoes of India’. The post was shared a day ago and pulled more than 6K views from netizens.
“In a country where grapists become Politicians,” a user said. “Some men will go to great lengths just to defend this,” added another person. “Civic sense? Law and order?? Rule of law?? In India.... It's a joke now,” commented the next.

“They are checking if there is any possibility! Cheap fellows,” added another. “This is why quality education and jobs are important. They should be the main focus,” commented the next person in the comment section.
“Broad daylight. Women were modestly dressed. They were doing no provoking activities. -- Negated all the If and Buts. Now tell me, why were the guys creeping out on strange women?” asked another person.
