Delhi-NCR residents could witness another day of turbulent weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of strong thunderstorms, dust storms and light rainfall across the national capital. The weather alert comes as an active western disturbance and cyclonic circulation continue to influence weather conditions across large parts of north, east and central India.

According to the IMD, Delhi is likely to witness partly cloudy skies through the day, with dust-laden winds and thunderstorms expected during the afternoon and evening hours. Wind speeds may reach 50 to 70 kmph, accompanied by light rain in several areas of the city.

Weather officials have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity, particularly while travelling, as gusty winds may lead to falling tree branches, temporary disruptions and reduced visibility due to dust storms.

Delhi is among 17 states placed under weather alerts as the southwest monsoon edges closer to Kerala. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms and strong winds of up to 80 kmph have been forecast in several parts of the country.

The impact of the active western disturbance is being felt from the Himalayan states to the northern plains. Rajasthan remains under an orange alert for hailstorms and dust storms, while Punjab and Haryana are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

Uttar Pradesh is also likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds ranging between 50 and 60 kmph. In contrast, parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh may continue to experience hot and dry conditions.

Authorities have advised tourists and travellers in hilly areas to exercise caution due to the possibility of slippery roads, landslides and sudden weather changes.

With monsoon conditions gradually strengthening and western disturbances remaining active, weather experts expect unsettled conditions to continue across several parts of north India over the next few days.
