A 42-year-old Arizona man was arrested Friday, May 29, after New York State Police troopers discovered a loaded handgun and a dangerous knife under the driver’s seat of his pickup truck during a traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway, the authorities said.

Orlando Silva Rodriguez, of Phoenix, was stopped at approximately 3:12 p.m. on the LIE in the village of Old Westbury after troopers with the New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit observed multiple traffic infractions, police said. A narcotic K9 Kane accompanied the troopers

During the investigation, troopers said they recovered a Springfield XDM 9mm pistol loaded with a 19-round magazine, along with a dangerous knife Anorfrom beneath the driver’s seat.

Silva Rodriguez was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon with a large capacity ammunition feeding device, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon ifor the dangerous knife, police said.

He was arraigned Saturday at Nassau County District Court.
