Residents will once again have the opportunity to stroll, shop and dine along Plandome Road as the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce brings back its annual Manhasset Al Fresco events this summer.
The popular outdoor community gatherings are scheduled for Sunday, June 7, on South Plandome Road and Sunday, July 12, on North Plandome Road. Both events will run from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and feature outdoor dining, shopping, live music and family-friendly activities. The roadway will be closed to vehicle traffic during the events, creating a pedestrian-only environment for visitors.
Hosted by theManhasset Chamber of Commerce, Al Fresco began during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to support local businesses and encourage outdoor dining during a difficult period. Six years later, organizers say the event has become a cherished community tradition.
“What started as a simple idea has now grown into a beloved annual tradition for Manhasset families and business owners,” said Antonietta Manzi, president of the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce. “Our goal is to create a space where the community can come together, enjoy Plandome Road in a new way and, most importantly, support the incredible small businesses that make Manhasset unique.”
The event has expanded considerably since its inaugural year, when live music was the primary attraction. Organizers have since added inflatable games, a video game truck and other activities designed to appeal to families while drawing more visitors to the downtown business district.
“After six years, we continue to carry the same vision: bringing community spirit to Manhasset while supporting and promoting our local businesses,” Manzi said. “These events provide opportunities for businesses to connect with residents, build relationships and become an active part of the community we all love.”
Among the event’s supporters is Hierarchy Architecture + Design, a platinum sponsor of this year’s Al Fresco series.
“Plandome Road is the heart of Manhasset,” said T.J. Costello, founder and principal architect of the firm. “Al Fresco gives people a chance to slow down, connect with neighbors and experience our downtown in a new way. It’s also an opportunity for businesses to meet residents and show that we’re all invested in this community together.”
The event also features attractions geared toward families, including activities hosted by local businesses and organizations. Participating restaurants and retailers are expected to welcome visitors with outdoor dining, sidewalk sales and special offerings throughout the evening.
“While everyone’s having a great time, our local restaurants are full, storefronts are buzzing and small businesses are getting the exposure and support they deserve,” she added. “It’s truly a great night for Manhasset.”
