The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports at the Parliament House Annexe (PHA) met today to discuss examination reforms, including the use of pen-and-paper tests versus computer-based tests (CBT), as well as issues concerning NEET and the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
During the discussion, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education questioned the government over the NEET issue. While the panel had to discuss functioning of NTA and other things, the leaders were only able to discuss NEET-UG re-examination. Sources have said that discussion on all other issues will take place after June 21.
During today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, the committee told the government that it does not want to politicise the issues related to education and the NEET examination, but stressed that the examination must be conducted in a completely transparent and fair manner.
The committee said that students’ futures are at stake. Whether the system is compromised or the government is compromised, it is the students who will suffer.
The meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, which lasted for more than three hours, was chaired byDigvijaya Singh. Director General of the National Testing Agency, Abhishek Singh, and officials from the Ministry of Education were also present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, Jairam Ramesh, a senior Indian politician from the Indian National Congress (INC), claimed that the committee "has given no clean chit to the Prime Minister or his ‘system’ and Shri Digvijaya Singh did not express his confidence in them."
The Congress MP tweeted: "Mr. Digvijaya Singh noted that we have been informed by the Solicitor General that the Prime Minister is monitoring the NEET re-exam personally. For the sake of our students, we must believe that the exam will be held successfully."
"It is impossible for any reasonable mind to have any faith in the Pradhan Mantri and his ‘system.’ This ‘system’ botched up the investigation in the 2024 NEET-UG paper leak. This ‘system’ continues to deny that the NEET-UG 2026 paper was leaked, when the truth is evident to all. This ‘system’ has not only wrecked administration of exams in higher education, but has done so in CBSE as well," he further tweeted. "The Modi Government and its Education ‘system’ - thoroughly discredited and exposed as incompetent, corrupt, and arrogant - is now relying on out-of-context quotes, rumors, and fake news."
