Tamil NaduChief MinisterC Joseph Vijay, on Monday, held a roadshow and delivered his public address in Trichy ever since his assembly election victory, amid a rousing crowd comprising his followers, fans, and TVK workers. Vijay addressed a sea of people on the premises of St. Joseph's College ground and thanked the people ofTiruchirappalli East, from where he won and subsequently resigned his seat so as to retain the Perambur seat inChennai.
Vijay thanked the people of the Tiruchirappalli East constituency for giving a mandate to his party, saying, "My special greetings and my heartfelt thanks to all the people of the Tiruchirappalli East constituency".
"Now, people refer to me as the MLA of the Perambur constituency. That is only in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Election Commission. But as far as I am concerned, the people of the Tiruchirappalli constituency are also very, very close to my heart," Vijay said.
Speaking further, Vijay said, "Only a few weeks have passed since I assumed office, yet those who claimed they would remain silent for six months could not remain silent even for six days. By rejecting the two people who had been taking turns deceiving you for so many years, you chose your Vijay, your elder brother, your younger brother, who came to genuinely work for you, and made him not the Chief Minister, but your first servant."
"Today, I am firmly convinced that I will continue to receive your wholehearted support in all the elections to come in the future," Vijay said.
Recalling MGR, Vijay mentioned, "They said that even late CM MGR did not secure this much vote share in his very first election. Yet today, you have extended such tremendous support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. I am not comparing myself to M.G.R. M.G.R. is M.G.R., but I am your Vijay, who has come to work in the path shown by M.G.R., Anna, and Periyar."
"Even now, I say this politically: the contest is only between two parties, one is the DMK and the other is the TVK. There is no role or space for anyone else in between," he said.
A while ago, as soon as Vijay arrived, he was accorded a ceremonial police salute, and Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and S Ramesh, senior officials, Lok Sabha MP Durai Vaiko welcomed him.
Later, he travelled in a van from the airport to the venue of the public meeting, St Joseph College, a distance of roughly 10 km.
Seated in the front, he waved to the people who were waiting on both sides of the road. Party workers and locals showered flowers on his vehicle at several places, and they enthusiastically shouted 'Vijay'. Police had made tight security arrangements in view of the visit of the chief minister.
