The International Cricket Council's (ICC) Board meeting in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 31) led to some major outcomes over several issues that are affecting the sport in the modern age. The major ones include a radical suggestion to deal with the issue of bad light stopping play in Test cricket, as well as a discussion on the growth of franchise cricket across the world. Meanwhile, it was confirmed India will not travel to Pakistan for the Women's T20 World Cup 2028.

The meeting was chaired by Shah was held on the sidelines of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) final, which took place in the city on the same day at the Narendra Modi Stadium between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT).

ICC Announce Major Rule Changes

1) Trials for Pink Balls To Be Used To Avoid Losing Time To Bad Light

"Trialling the use of a pink ball in Test Matches, with prior agreement from both teams, to maximise play in case of anticipated bad light. Undertaking research on lighting technology for match officials and venues to reduce lost play due to poor light, with ICC co-funding R&D projects alongside Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

Enabling match officials to access Hawk-Eye data when considering reporting an illegal bowling action," said the ICC statement.

2) Head Coach Allowed To Enter Field Of Play

"Updates to the Playing Conditions to allow head coaches or their designees to consult with teams during scheduled drinks intervals, mandate 15-minute intervals in T20I matches, and require batters to be ready at the resumption of play," the ICC statement added.

1) ICC Women's Champions Trophy Date Changed

The tournament will take place from 14-28 February 2027 instead of June-July next year.
