The entire regime needs an overhaul.

The issue’s hit the news becauseGOP candidate for governor Steve Hilton, whom The California Post endorsed today, has vowed to decimate state regulations if he wins.

Good. Californians would benefit from leaner, less expensive government, a lower regulatory burden and a lighter touch from Sacramento almost across the board.

State residents have long endured overreaching governance that makes California less affordable, less prosperous and less competitive.

Gov. Gavin Newsom and legislators have taxed and spent excessively, deprioritized core public services, and heaped layers of regulations, mandates and directives onGolden State residents.

The state’s high cost of living and eroding quality of life –– including crime, homelessness, dilapidated roads, water and energy shortages, and more –– have driven many residents out of state entirely.

Meanwhile, the prospect of a “billionaire” tax planned for the November ballot has further drained the state of wealth, ingenuity and ironically, tax receipts. (Despite this destruction, a recent poll by the Public Policy Institute of California found a majority of likely voters in favor of the tax, for now.)
