The United States has indicated that an interim trade agreement with India could be concluded in the near future, as both nations continue efforts to strengthen commercial and technological cooperation. Speaking in Delhi on Thursday, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said discussions between the two sides were progressing positively and that an initial agreement was now within reach.

"Our current interim trade agreement is on the table for us to finalise that will unlock prosperity for both of our countries," Gor said in Delhi.

"We fully expect that the trade deal will be signed over next few weeks and months," he added.

The ambassador stressed that ties between Washington andNew Delhiare entering a phase of deeper engagement, particularly in sectors linked to economic growth, innovation, and strategic technology. According to Gor, the relationship between the two countries carries enormous untapped potential that could reshape bilateral cooperation in the coming years.

"There is limitless potential to take forward US-India relations," he said. He also noted that the US increasingly views India as a major force in the global economy and technology ecosystem, creating opportunities for more integrated business ties.

"There is opportunity to transform US-India relations into a more seamless economic relationship," Gor said.

Technology cooperation featured prominently in the ambassador’s remarks, with Gor stating that the partnership between the two democracies is uniquely positioned to benefit from emerging global opportunities.

"No partnership is better placed than the one between India and US to leverage new opportunities, including in technology domain," he said. He further revealed that Washington is reassessing its export control systems to enable smoother collaboration with India in advanced and strategic technologies.

The comments come at a time when India and the US are expanding cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and critical technologies.
