Today, doctors tailor therapy plans according to each child’s specific disease profile and risk category, helping improve cure rates while reducing long-term side effects.

Modern childhood cancer treatment usually involves chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, bone marrow transplant, and stem cell transplant. Advanced therapies such as CAR-T cell therapy are also offering hope to children with relapsed or high-risk blood cancers.

CAR-T therapy involves modifying a patient’s immune cells in a laboratory so they can identify and attack cancer cells more effectively. Although still expensive and available mainly in specialised centres, experts say these therapies are producing promising results in difficult cases.
