New Delhi:Activist Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday strongly defended his support for theCockroach Janta Party(CJP) and rejected Ladakh Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s claim that he was unsure about the online movement’s origins. Wangchuk also questioned Saxena’s public remarks after their recent meeting, saying the LG’s post on X was very different from the friendly discussion they had in person.

Recalling the meeting, Wangchuk said he and his wife met Saxena over tea for nearly an hour in a warm and cordial atmosphere. He said they discussed the LG’s initiatives, their work, and possible areas of collaboration.

However, Wangchuk said he was surprised by Saxena’s post on social media after the meeting.

"I thought this was maybe to please some boss somewhere in Delhi who had instructed him to call me up and say such things, but the meeting was none like this, only the tweet was," he said.

Wangchuk said he did not respond immediately because he did not want to react to what he called "childish behaviour". He decided to speak only after the matter was reported in newspapers.

The controversy began after Saxena posted on X on Tuesday saying he had warned Wangchuk against creating a "misleading and provocative narrative". Saxena also claimed Wangchuk admitted that comparing Ladakh with Manipur was an "error of judgement".

Rejecting the claim, Wangchuk said, "I don't think it is an error of my judgment. I still totally stand by it."

He clarified that he had only said such a comparison was "avoidable" in the current situation.

"Avoidable is very different from an error of judgment," Wangchuk said.

Wangchuk also denied Saxena’s claim that he had distanced himself from the Cockroach Janta Party.
