Over the last year and a half, President Donald Trump has drastically changed the White House, as evidenced by pictures comparing the historical building's exterior before and after he became commander-in-chief.
President Trump has made clear he intends to transform theWhite Houseand all of its adjacent structures in his image, from the East Wing to Freedom Plaza. Photos shared on X emphasize theextent of the damagethe Trump administration has wrought in Washington, D.C. One shows the once-green front lawn that showcased well-kept shrubbery, a beautiful fountain, and a walking path that circled the grounds.
The next, presumably taken afterPresident Trumpwon back the Oval Office, is gloomier, with mass destruction seen at every corner. The greenery is largely gone, save for a few patches of bushes and grass.
"Hey...is anyone actually defending this?" one user on X asked.
"President Donald J. Trump is a disgrace to the White House. He has made the most iconic historic building in America look like white trash lives there."
"Elect a clown and expect nothing more than this," a third joked.
According to an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll using Ipsos' KnowledgePanel taken in late 2025, the majority of Americans were against demolishing the White House's East Wing to make room for Trump's ballroom.
According to the survey, 56% of Americans are against the Trump administration demolishing the White House's East Wing in order to build a 90,000-square-foot ballroom that will be financed by $400 million in private donations. Of them, 45% "strongly" disagree.
