With a little bit of blues and a lot of soul, Joe Louis, of Farmingdale, has taken the stage at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame with his band, Joe Louis and the Groove, to deliver powerful performances for audiences.

Louis, 26, a soul singer-songwriter and guitarist, performed originals and covers on May 3 to a full room of supporters, giving him the opportunity to play at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame.

“We couldn’t be more excited,” Louis said. “We just really want to do a good job—we have a lot of artists to live up to around here.”

Louis is a 2017 graduate of Farmingdale High School. He said he started with music at a young age, listening to blues and soul legends, including B.B. King, Wilson Pickett and Little Buster and the Soul Brothers.

He released his first studio album, “First Time I Saw You,” in 2024, and the year prior won the Long Island Blues Challenge. His second album is in the works and is set to be released later this year.

“We’re getting it together but we probably have enough to put a new album out now,” he said. “We’ve been working with a lot of great people.”

Louis writes his own songs, and said many come from life experiences.

“I try to make the songs not too one-sided so people can relate to them and take it in their own way,” he said.
