Democrats are spiraling into full-blown outrage after reports surfaced that Trump administration officials are pressing the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to create a new $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump’s portrait—the first living person to appear on U.S. currency in more than 150 years.
While the left clutches pearls over “ego” and “vanity,” the move is being framed as a bold commemoration tied to America’s 250th anniversary, highlighting the president’s impact on the economy and national pride.
According to a Washington Post report, Trump appointees including U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach and senior adviser Mike Brown urged the Bureau to develop prototypes last year.

Mock-up designs showed Trump’s face centered on the note, flanked by the signatures of the president and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, incorporating American flag colors and a 250th anniversary logo.
British painter Iain Alexander, who created the designs, confirmed Trump reviewed and approved specific changes.
Federal law has barred living individuals from currency since 1866, and a $250 denomination itself would require congressional approval.
A bill introduced last year by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), H.R. 1761, aims to authorize the commemorative note but has not advanced.
The Treasury Department stated it is “moving proactively to produce a $250 commemorative note which will appropriately recognize the 250th Anniversary of our great nation” should legislation pass.
