The United States and Iran have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement on a 60-day memorandum of understanding aimed at extending the ceasefire and launching formal negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program — but the deal is still awaiting final approval from President Donald Trump.
According to Axios reporter Barak Ravid, US officials and regional mediators say negotiators from both sides finalized most terms of the proposed framework earlier this week.
However, Trump has not yet signed off on the agreement.
Trump Wants More Time Before Signing Off
US officials told Axios that negotiators briefed Trump on the details of the draft agreement, but the president requested “a couple of days to think about it” before making a final decision.
Iran has also not publicly confirmed its acceptance of the proposed deal.
One US official described the agreement as “a mechanism to get everybody to the table,” with the more contentious details expected to be negotiated during the 60-day period.
According to the report, the proposed memorandum would include several major commitments from both Washington and Tehran:
