Amritsar:An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was injured after he wasshotby neighbours in Punjab's Amritsar on Thursday. The victim has been identified as Jaipal Singh Bau, in charge of Ward No. 42 of Amritsar city. Bau was shot at allegedly because of a dispute with a neighbour over car parking going back a few months, an official said as reported by PTI. As per the preliminary information, an argument quickly escalated, with members of both sides allegedly firing at each other.

Two rounds were fired at Bau with the intent to kill him, the official added. The AAP leader sustained critical injuries and was admitted to a private hospital in the city. The incident created panic among residents of the Kot Atma Ram locality. CCTV footage of the incident also surfaced online. It shows both parties are engaging in a verbal dispute. Later the dispute turned violent.

Bau is currently undergoing treatment there. According to the report, he had to undergo an emergency surgery. Bau is also considered close to AAP's Amritsar South MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar.

A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter. So far, there are no reports of anyone being arrested in the matter.

As per the police, Jaipal Singh's son parked his Thar SUV right in front of the other vehicle. When a retired inspector, Tejinder Singh, objected to it, Bau's son confronted him, a police official told ANI. The police official further stated that he called his father and brother. and the matter escalated.

"We got to know that retired Inspector Tejinder Singh, who has a house there, and Inspector Tejinder Singh, who is living in a different lane... It appears that his son had parked his Thar SUV right in front of the other vehicle. When Inspector Tejinder Singh objected to this parking arrangement, Jaipal Singh's son confronted him... From there, using his mobile phone, the son summoned his father and brother to the location. Armed with a revolver and a Kirpan (Sikh ceremonial sword), the father and brother arrived and confronted Tejinder Singh," ACP Ravinder Singh told ANI.

"During the altercation, a bullet fired by Tejinder Singh struck one of his paying guests, Narender Singh's leg... After this, again, Tejinder Singh fired, which struck Jaipal Singh's leg... Upon arrival, we immediately took both injured to the hospital... we took custody of the DVR footage, and initiated appropriate legal proceedings against the involved parties... Both sides fired bullets. Both are injured individuals out of danger," he added.
