In a spine-chilling hit-and-run case inJodhpur, a scooter rider was left injured after she ended up getting tossed 10 to 15 meters into the air. The disturbing incident was caught on a CCTV camera installed nearby. TheCCTVfootage showed the rider- a woman- trying to cross an intersection, which is when an SUV- a Fortuner car- hit the two-wheeler. The accident reportedly unfolded in front of the Passport Office on Pal Road in Jodhpur, on May 22. The spot reportedly falls under the Devnagar police station area.

The victim, after being thrown into the air, ended up crashing on the road, leading to injuries. The careless driver, on the other hand, immediately fled the spot, turning it into a classic hit-and-run.

The injured woman was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. The police have registered a case in the matter and have started a search for the Fortuner car bearing registration number ‘GJ16CB4533’. Efforts are underway to identify the accused driver.

The CCTV footage, on the other hand, is also being circulated on social media, leaving netizens irked.

In India, a hit-and-run case can lead to punishment under Section 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Fleeing without reporting can carry up to 10 years in prison and can lead to a fine of up to Rs 7 lakh.

In another incident, at least six people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus allegedly rammed into an auto-rickshaw and dragged it for nearly 100 metres in Odisha’s Ganjam district on May 22, police said. The horrific accident took place near Ladakapalli Chhak under Purushottampur Police Station limits.

According to reports, the speeding passenger bus crashed into the auto-rickshaw with massive force before dragging the vehicle along the road, leaving it badly mangled. Six people died on the spot in the collision, while four others suffered serious injuries.
