In a major blow against organised crime and gang violence inIndia, 2 gangsters from Punjab were nabbed at the Mumbai Airport, while they were planning to flee the country. The arrest was made through a joint operation involving the Punjab Police,MumbaiPolice, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the airport security agencies. The arrested criminals, identified as Jaswant Singh alias Jassa and Karan Kira, were reportedly trying to board an international flight, which is when the security agencies intercepted and detained them at the airport.

According to police sources, officials believe that the arrests were a significant blow to gangster networks operating in Punjab. During the investigation, it was reportedly revealed that Jaswant Singh was allegedly linked to the notorious Bambiha Gang and had been on the run for a long time. He was wanted in multiple criminal cases, including attempted murder, extortion, illegal arms supply, and criminal conspiracy. Investigators also suspected that, despite remaining underground, he was actively involved in coordinating gang-related activities.

Karan Kira, on the other hand, was said to be the main accused in the high-profile murder case of an Akali councillor in Punjab. Since the murder, he had reportedly been absconding and constantly changing locations to avoid arrest. Investigating agencies also suspected that he had left Punjab some time ago and was now trying to flee the country through Mumbai. Officials are currently probing whether fake travel documents or illegal channels were being arranged for his escape.

It was the Punjab Police’s intelligence wing that had reportedly received specific inputs about the movement of both gangsters. Acting on the tip-off, the information was immediately shared with Mumbai Police, CISF personnel, immigration officials, and airport security agencies.

A coordinated surveillance operation was then launched at the airport, leading to the successful arrest of both accused just before they could board their flight.

A special team from the Punjab Police is expected to reach Mumbai soon to secure transit remand and take both accused back to Punjab for further investigation.
