The announcement of achange of guardin the three-year-old Congress government in Karnataka seems imminent, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking the Governor's appointment on Thursday, May 28. Siddaramaiah will also host his cabinet colleagues, including DK Shivakumar, for breakfast today. Siddaramaiah was reportedly asked by the Congress high command to make way for Shivakumar's elevation to the top post after back-to-back meetings held in the national capital earlier this week.

Siddaramaiah has sought Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's appointment on Thursday. It's being speculated that he will tender his resignation from the top post.

Amid the resignation buzz, Siddaramaiah on Wednesday visited Vidhana Soudha and paid floral tributes to the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru there on his death anniversary. He later in the evening received the Karnataka State BC commission's "socio-economic and educational survey,’ report popularly known as "caste "census report", one of his government's key initiatives.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is likely to host his cabinet colleagues for breakfast on Thursday. Shivakumar is also likely to attend the breakfast meeting at the CM's official residence. Incidentally, the two leaders had hosted each other for breakfast late last year in an apparent effort at breaking the logjam over the leadership tussle.

Alongside handing over the top post to DK Shivakumar, the party may replace the state unit chief with Satish Jarkiholi. Parallelly, discussions around a possible two deputy chief ministers formula have also surfaced with a proposal to ensure caste balance by appointing one leader each from the OBC and SC communities.

Furthermore, a crucial Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting is expected to be held on Friday in Bengaluru to officially elect the new leadership in Karnataka.

While Congress has denied any leadership change, AICC General Secretary in charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, clarified that the Congress has not called for a meeting of its legislature party in the state and that no other decision has been taken yet. He requested the media not to speculate on the issue. The Legislature Party selects its leader, the obvious choice for CM.
