YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has stirred a fresh political debate over voter list revisions, claiming that large-scale deletions under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise played a decisive role in the defeats of parties led by Mamata Banerjee and MK Stalin. Addressing party workers, Jagan alleged that “crores of votes” were removed in states like West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, directly impacting election outcomes.

“SIR removed 91 lakh votes in Bengal, and Mamata’s TMC lost by 31 lakh votes. They removed 74 lakh votes in Tamil Nadu and Stalin’s DMK lost by 17 lakh votes,” Jagan claimed. The YSRCP chief said the issue should concern every opposition party, arguing that both “addition and deletion” of votes can influence electoral results.

Referring to specific constituencies, Jagan claimed that in Mamata Banerjee’s Bhabanipur seat, tens of thousands of votes were removed and linked it to her defeat margin. He also cited Tamil Nadu’s Kolathur constituency while warning party cadres to remain “careful and alert” about electoral roll revisions.

“We lost because votes were increased. They lost because votes were decreased. Both are dangerous,” he said.

Jagan’s remarks come amid a wider political battle over voter list revisions and allegations of manipulation by opposition parties across several states. While the ruling establishment has maintained that SIR exercises are routine procedures conducted to clean up electoral rolls, opposition leaders have repeatedly alleged selective deletions targeting their support base.
