New Delhi:As large parts of India continue to reel under an intense heatwave, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged citizens to stay safe, remain hydrated and show compassion towards others battling the soaring temperatures. In a series of posts on X, PM Modi highlighted how rising temperatures are making daily life increasingly difficult across the country and appealed to people to take precautions while also helping those around them.

“Temperatures are continuously rising in different parts of the country, and along with this, the many difficulties caused by the heat in daily life are also increasing. I urge all my fellow citizens to take as many precautions as possible. Please keep yourselves hydrated and carry water with you when stepping out of your homes,” the Prime Minister said.

Calling kindness an important response during extreme weather conditions, PM Modi added, “In such weather, your sensitivity also becomes a great source of support. If possible, do offer a glass of water to anyone who is thirsty. I also appreciate those people who keep water in pitchers outside their homes and shops so that anyone can drink from them.”

As temperatures continue to touch dangerous levels in several states, the Prime Minister also made a special appeal for the elderly, urging people to check in on older family members and neighbours.

“Whenever possible, call and check on elderly parents, grandparents and loved ones during this heatwave. Remind them to stay hydrated, avoid stepping out in peak afternoon hours and take rest whenever possible,” he said.

The Prime Minister also drew attention to the impact of the scorching heat on birds and animals, asking people to place bowls of water outside homes, balconies, rooftops and shops.

“In this extreme heat, let us also remember the birds and animals around us. A small bowl of water kept outside your home, balconies, terraces, shops or offices can become a lifeline for a thirsty bird. May compassion guide us in these difficult days,” Modi said in another post.

Reiterating the message later, he added, “In this scorching heat, we must not forget the animals and birds around us. Placing a small vessel filled with water outside our homes, balconies, rooftops, shops, or offices can become a lifeline for a thirsty bird. Let us, in these difficult days, look after one another with complete sensitivity and compassion.”

The Prime Minister’s appeal comes amid severe heatwave conditions being reported from multiple parts of the country, with authorities repeatedly issuing advisories on hydration, avoiding outdoor exposure during peak hours and taking precautions against heat-related illnesses.
