New Delhi:Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday during his first official visit to the national capital after taking office earlier this month. Sources said Vijay is expected to leave Chennai on a 10 am flight and meet Modi at 4.30 pm. During the meeting, theTVK chiefis likely to submit a memorandum highlighting Tamil Nadu’s long-pending demands and seeking greater Central support for the state.

The agenda is expected to include funding for welfare and infrastructure projects, approvals for pending development works, industrial growth initiatives, financial allocations for connectivity projects, and discussions on the ongoing Mekedatu water dispute.

Sources also said Vijay is likely to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to seek financial assistance for ongoing projects in Tamil Nadu.

Apart from the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister is also expected to hold meetings with Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several senior Union ministers during his two-day Delhi visit.

Sources added that Vijay is expected to meet senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday.

On Wednesday night, leaders from Left parties and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) are also expected to meet Vijay at Tamil Nadu House.

The visit has drawn political attention as it comes weeks after Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by winning 108 seats in the 234-member House. Though short of the majority mark, Vijay later secured support from Congress, Left parties, IUML and VCK to form a coalition government in the state.

Ahead of the visit, a high-level security review meeting was held at Chennai airport on Tuesday. Officials from the Chief Minister’s security team, BCAS, CISF, airport authorities and Chennai police attended the meeting to review arrangements for Vijay’s departure.
