A 36-year-old woman’s death, which was almost ruled out as a ‘routine suicide’, ended up blowing up into yet another ‘dowry harassment case’ in India, that came forward not so long after the ‘Twisha Sharma murder case’, that had shocked the entire nation. Jaipur’s Anu Meena reportedly died by suicide on April 7, but only after 40 days of her death, her family came forward and accused the woman’s in-laws and her husband of harassing her for dowry. Reportedly, the family decided to contact the police after they recovered disturbing CCTV footage, audio recordings, clips and such.

The woman’s family has lodged a complaint against their daughter's husband, Gautam Meena. Suspiciously enough, the accused family is currently reported to be absconding. Amid the same, statements from Anu's husband have surfaced, where he is claiming of being “blackmailed”, along with agreeing to “cooperate with the police.”

As per the statement, the husband has also claimed that “70 per cent" of his accumulated property was “registered in Anu's name.” He also claimed that Anu called him before ending her life.

"I am being blackmailed. 70 per cent of all the property I have accumulated in my lifetime was registered in Anu's name. I am ready to cooperate with the police.”

He further recounted the entire sequence of events from April 07, the day Anu died by suicide. "On that day, I personally put the children on the school bus. I went for a walk until 8:30 AM; then, after informing Anu, I left for Chomu, where construction work on a plot was underway. While I was still en route, I received a call from Anu; she kept saying- Come back! Please come back!”

He continued, "I refused because I was just about to reach Chomu. Subsequently, Anu made a video call to me on WhatsApp. I saw her taking a chunni (scarf) from the lower section of the house and heading upstairs."

"I pleaded with her repeatedly to stop, but she would not listen. I immediately called my neighbour, Digvijay Ji, and urged him to somehow break down the gate and enter the house, warning him that Anu was about to commit suicide. It took them some time to break open the gate, which is why I was unable to save Anu."

"I rushed straight home from Chomu and took Anu to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. They (her in-laws' family) possess a video, and I am being blackmailed because of it. They themselves handed her body over to me for the final rites. They attended only on the day of the funeral and have not returned since."

The husband then accused Anu’s family of taking away the “property papers, jewellery, mobile phone, CCTV recordings” and the kids.
