A man in his 60s has been accused of selling sex with his wife to at least 120 men. The suspect has been in custody since October after the woman reported the incidents to police inSweden.

Detectives have been preparing criminal charges of aggravated procurement. Prosecutor Ida Annerstedt said police believe the husband ruthlessly exploited his wife on a large scale. The case has grim echoes ofGisèle Pelicot's caseinFrance.

Prosecutors spoke for the first time publicly about the total number of men believed to be involved in the Swedish case on Monday (February 16).

They did not identify the couple and the man denies any wrongdoing.

Ms Annerstedt declined to discuss coercion in the case or comment on whether the wife was drugged during the alleged sex.

It is illegal to buy and procure sex in Sweden, but the country does not criminalise the selling of sex by sex workers, who are considered as exploited victims.

Those convicted of aggravated procurement can face prison sentences of two to 10 years.

The prosecutor said two men believed to have bought sex with the woman have been charged and charges against more suspects are likely to come.
