Hamas military leader Muhammed Odeh was killed in Gaza, the Israel Defence Forces claimed. Odeh was appointed as the new leader of Hamas' military wing to replace Ezzedine al-Haddad. Israel said that Odeh had served as the head of Hamas's intelligence staff during the October 7 attack. Meanwhile, Israel has significantly expandedstrikesin Lebanon.

The operation was carried out on the instructions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz, Israel PMO said in a post on X.

Benjamin Netanyahu also shared the confirmation in an X post, vowing to eliminate all involved in the October 7, 2023, massacre. "We have now struck Muhammad Odeh- the leader of Hamas's military wing and one of the architects of the October 7 massacre. We will get to all of them," he said.

"Odeh was responsible for the murder, abduction, and wounding of many Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers. The IDF and the ISA are commended for the ongoing effort to eliminate our enemies. We will continue to pursue anyone who took part in the October 7 massacre. Sooner or later, Israel will reach them all," the PM's office posted on X.

Since Hamas's cross-border assault, the Israeli military and intelligence services have waged a campaign targeting the group's senior political leaders and militant commanders in Gaza and across the region.

Israel launched more than 120 air strikes across Lebanon and expanded ground operations beyond its security zone as tensions with Hezbollah escalated sharply.

Lebanese security sources told Reuters the bombardment was among the heaviest in recent weeks, with strikes targeting areas across southern and eastern Lebanon.

The escalation came despite a ceasefire announced on April 16 that was intended to halt fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Israeli military was deepening its operations in Lebanon and “capturing and controlling areas” to strengthen a security strip along the border.
