For all of us millennials who grew up in middle or upper middle class households, owning a PlayStation console felt like a luxury. Hence, the love for the console and gaming was compensated with long sessions at game parlours, finding new mobile games that are worth my time, and then getting a gaming laptop for both work and gaming. And when I finally purchased a PS5 back in 2025, I thought this is it, this is what I was waiting for, and now I can play the titles I want, yada yada, until reality hit - PlayStation games are pretty expensive, and making a library could cost you an arm or a leg, maybe.

Now, when I first saw the PS Plus banner on my console screen, I was like this sounds cool - some of the greatest AAA titles of all time at a minimal subscription fee. That struck me as a fair deal. With Black Friday around the corner, I got the PS Plus Deluxe subscription for Rs 4,999 down from its original annual price of Rs 7,599. Since then, it has been a journey, and a rather amazing one. On that note, here is why I think everyone should get a PS Plus subscription if you simply don't want to burn a hole in your pocket. And if you are someone who is more fond of collecting game CDs like trophies, then this one is not for you, lad.

Understand it in a way, like you are 2-0 down on UCL night in the first 45 minutes (responsibilities and financial constraints that never let you buy PlayStation), and then you score 2 goals in the second half by the 80th minute (you buy a PlayStation 5), and now you just need a single goal in ten minutes and the extra time combined to win the match. Purchasing the PS Plus felt like that same goal for sure.

I brought the PS Plus Deluxe subscription, and the first thing I did was go through the library. Mind blown will be an understatement for what I saw - Ghost of Tsushima, Last of Us Part 1, Last of Us Part 2 - only three of these games would have cost me more than the subscription. And these games are not seasonal, they are here to stay, some for longer periods and some for shorter, but still, none of them is leaving before you end it (until and unless you treat your PS5 just like the time table you thought you'll follow every time but missed out on).

If you take my suggestions, then the most cost-efficient plan to go for could be an annual one from the Extra or Deluxe tier. What I loved the most about my journey is the discovery part, you always have a new game, new genre, to explore on PS Plus. Pretty recently, Sony dropped GTA 5 for free in the PS Plus Catalogue. And yes, the PS Plus February catalogue is bringing Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for free. That's not it, you can get all three Spider-Man Games for free on PS Plus along with titles like God of War, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs, and trust me, this article can get flooded with only the game titles if I start mentioning all of them.

Purchasing PS Plus is one thing, and getting that Deluxe one is (I know I am justifying my overspending habits, bare with me, lads) a totally different feeling. Apart from the monthly games, you also get access to some of the greatest PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles, thanks to backwards compatibility. If you are someone who is always just an inch away from feeling nostalgic, especially with games, like me, then you will be sold the moment you see the catalogue and games like Tekken 3, God Of War III, Resident Evil, and a lot more.

And there's more to it, PS Plus Deluxe brings you exclusive discounts on new titles and the old ones - the best part that you also get a game trial feature where you can play most of the new games for a period of two hours to test them out before making a purchase decision (What? you now want games like Mafia to have Day One PS Plus release? If yes, then either you don't own a PS5 or you don't own a PS5).

I am an anti-subscription guy when it comes to purchasing any of them. Whether it is Netflix, Amazon Prime, or any other app, I don't fall for subscriptions, and the methods used by me can't be discussed here. After YouTube Premium, PS Plus is the only subscription model for which I never have an issue paying because of the exemplary ROI. And if you are someone who also wants to build a library, try new games, and can spend four to five hours a week on gaming, then this subscription is something unmissable for you.
