TheRoslyn Landmark Societyannounced a major leadership transition as longtime Co-President Howard Kroplick stepped down after more than seven years leading the historic preservation organization.

Kroplick, who first assumed the presidency in 2018, said the transition reflects a deliberate effort to bring a younger generation into leadership while maintaining continuity within the organization.

“It was time for me, as they say,” Kroplick said. “I was real pleased to hand it off to the younger trustees who stepped up.”

The Society’s Board of Trustees elected Jordan Fensterman and John Santos as co-presidents. Mitchell Schwartz, Aviv Fine and Rosanna Wolff were named co-vice presidents, while Noam Shemel was appointed secretary and John Flynn will serve as treasurer.

Kroplick will remain on the Board of Trustees and said he plans to remain heavily involved in key restoration efforts, including the Roslyn Grist Mill project and the restoration of the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge.

During Kroplick’s tenure, the organization experienced significant growth, expanding its membership from roughly 30 members to more than 300, according to Kroplick.

“I think we have right now one of the strongest boards that we have ever had,” he said. “Almost every board member is very active in the organization.”

Among the organization’s most significant accomplishments during his leadership was continued restoration work on the Roslyn Grist Mill, a landmark dating back to the 18th century. Kroplick said the second phase of restoration work, including windows, doors and siding, is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.

“It’s going to look like the 1750s grist mill by the end of summer,” he said.

The Society has also advanced restoration efforts at the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge, where new windows and doors were recently installed.
