Iran on Tuesday accused the United States of violating theceasefire agreementthrough what it called "aggressive acts" in the southern Hormozgan region, home to the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas. In a strongly worded statement,Tehranalleged that the US carried out illegal actions, including “maritime piracy” against Iranian commercial vessels, even as diplomatic efforts mediated by Pakistan were underway, saying the developments reinforced Iran’s deep mistrust of Washington.

"The terrorist army of America, in continuation of its illegal and unjustified actions since the announcement of the ceasefire on 19 Farvardin 1405, particularly numerous instances of maritime piracy against Iranian commercial ships, committed a gross violation of the ceasefire in the Hormozgan region over the past 48 hours," Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

"The perpetration of these aggressive acts, simultaneous with the ongoing diplomatic process mediated by Pakistan, once again exposed the malevolence and breach of promise by the American ruling establishment to the Iranian nation, the people of the region, and the international community. It demonstrated that the principled approach of the Iranian nation in all three arenas of the field, the street, and diplomacy—based on profound suspicion toward the American regime—is founded on logic and a deep understanding of its vindictive and criminal nature and conduct toward the people of Iran," it added.

Strongly condemning these aggressive acts, Iran called them a clear violation of Paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter as well as the ceasefire. It said it "considers the American regime responsible for all the ensuing consequences of these aggressive actions".

"Without a doubt, the Islamic Republic of Iran will not leave any act of wickedness unanswered and will not entertain the slightest hesitation in defending the existence of Iran," it remarked.

Meanwhile, when it comes to the latest peace talks, Iran has not agreed to transfer its enriched uranium abroad, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.
