The newly published records, available through the department’sonline archive, include reports describing unexplained green orbs, glowing fireballs, and disc-shaped objects observed near military facilities in the American Southwest during the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Among the newly declassified materials is a116-page investigative filedetailing sightings and military inquiries connected to a highly sensitive installation near Sandia, New Mexico, between 1948 and 1950.
According to the Department of War, the file documents 209 reported sightings involving “green orbs,” “discs,” and “fireballs” observed near the military base during that period.
The release is part of the administration’s broader disclosure initiative tied to President Trump’s February executive order directing increased transparency involving records connected to “alien and extraterrestrial life.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said longstanding government secrecy surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena had fueled years of speculation and public mistrust.
“It’s time the American people see it for themselves,” Hegseth said in a statement accompanying the latest release.
The department previously published its first set of declassified UAP files earlier this month. Officials described those materials as “new, never-before-seen files” released under the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, known as PURSUE.
