Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is rising sharply in the United Kingdom, with experts warning that dangerous ultraviolet (UV) exposure continues to drive record numbers of cases. According to a new analysis released by Cancer Research UK, more than 20,000 people in the country were diagnosed with melanoma in 2022 - the highest number ever recorded.
Researchers now predict melanoma diagnoses could rise to 26,500 cases annually by 2040, marking a major increase in skin cancer risk across both men and women. Health experts say the alarming trend highlights the urgent need for greater awareness about melanoma symptoms, UV damage, and sun protection.

Melanoma is a serious type of skin cancer that develops in pigment-producing skin cells called melanocytes. While less common than other skin cancers, melanoma is far more dangerous because it can spread rapidly to other parts of the body if not detected early.
