Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, who many believe was sidelined by the Trump administration after telling the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in March 2025 that Iran was“not building a nuclear weapon and (now-deceased) Supreme Leader Khomeini has not authorized the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003,”announced her resignation on Friday, citing her husband’s recent diagnosis of a rare form of bone cancer.
Reuters, citing unnamed sources, reportedthat Gabbard“had been forced out by the White House.”
Gabbard has hardly been heard from during Trump’s disastrous war with Iran, and she retreated from her remarks about Iran’s nuclear ambitions in March 2025, blaming a “dishonest media” for taking her comments out of context.
