The US Department of War on Friday released a second batch of declassified files on allegedUnidentified Flying Object(UFO) sightings, including a newly surfaced audio recording from theApollo 12mission in which astronauts described witnessing mysterious “streaks of light” while trying to sleep in deep space.

The recording, titled NASA-UAP-D008, Apollo 12 Medical Debriefing – Tape 12, 1969, captures the crew recounting strange flashes and horizontal beams of light they repeatedly saw during the mission. According to the seven-minute-fifty-second clip, every member of the Apollo 12 crew experienced the unexplained lights in the darkness of space.

In the now-viral audio, Apollo 12 Commander Charles “Pete” Conrad Jr., Command Module Pilot Richard “Dick” Gordon Jr., and Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean discussed the eerie phenomenon during a post-mission debriefing. One astronaut compared the flashes to a sudden beam of light appearing and disappearing in front of the eyes.

“The streaks were always horizontal and roughly in the same place,” one crew member said. “It always seemed to me it went from right to left. No matter which eye it was in, the discharges were more towards the center, and it would be just like a pinpoint of light would close again.”

Another astronaut added that the lights usually appeared higher in his field of vision. “The horizontal ones that I saw were generally above that one… I just don’t remember any of them being down on the floor as part of my vision,” he said.

However, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the streaks of light were likely caused by cosmic rays that were passing through the retinas and visual systems of the astronauts. In simple words, NASA said it means the astronauts were seeing radiation in space.

The US government on Friday released a second set of formerly classified records detailing alleged UFO encounters, featuring witness accounts of mysterious green orbs, discs, and fireballs. The latest disclosure builds on the first batch of documents made public on May 8, following direct orders from President Donald Trump. The releases are part of a broader government effort to declassify information on unidentified flying objects that dates back to the late 1970s.
