The Great Neck Library’s Lower-Level Art Gallery is hosting a new exhibit throughout June. Titled “Among Children 2026: Paintings and Portraits by Rosemary Wilson Sloggatt,” the collection will be open during library hours from Monday, June 1, to Tuesday, June 30.
The community is invited to two special receptions at the library. A Kids’ Reception will take place June 3 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by an Artist Reception June 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Born in Munich, Germany, Sloggatt grew up in the arts community of Asheville, NC. She studied fine art at Parsons School of Design and Otis Art Institute, and later earned a master’s degree in museum education from Bank Street College. Her artistic vision expanded while working at the New York Public Research Library, where she had access to historic materials like the Gutenberg Bible and early Warhol folios. After a 10-year museum career, she joined the Great Neck Public Schools in 1995, where she has taught art for more than 25 years.
“Among Children” reflects Sloggatt’s 30 years of working—and a lifetime of living—among children. Her paintings, prints and drawings capture the essence of youth: living entirely in the moment and experiencing everything as new. Through these works, Sloggatt aims to capture those “in-the-moment” moments, reminding adults how much they can learn from children.
The exhibit is located at 159 Bayview Ave., Great Neck, NY 11023. More information about the artist can be found atrsloggattstudio.com.
