The South Ocean Middle School in Patchogue celebrated the importance of mental health wellness.

Students led the charge in mental health advocacy through powerful peer presentations. In collaboration with high school mentors and student-athletes, South Ocean students informed their peers and elementary students of the importance of physical activity as a key tool for supporting mental health.

An emphasis was put on building toolboxes with strategies to promote wellness, connection, and resilience, reminding “everyone that taking care of your mind matters just as much as your body,” said a representative of the Patchogue Medford School District.

National Mental Health Awareness Month in May is a major annual campaign to eliminate stigma, share personal experiences, and provide educational resources.

The 2026 campaign, “More Good Days, Together,” centers on community healing, empathy, and accessing care.

The 2026 theme focuses on community support, shared wellness experiences, and setting flexible definitions of what a “good” day means.

Similarly, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) adopted the campaign of “Healing Begins in Community,” where individuals share lived experiences to help turn silence into connection and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Mental Health America (MHA) hosted an immersive virtual experience designed to support mind and body.

Activities like guided chair yoga, reflective journaling, and calming breathwork activities are actionable items to contend with mental health struggles.

The positive actions also invite discussion on how lifestyle choices (e.g., what we eat, how we structure our time) impact our emotional well-being
