Boy Scout Troop 184 in Sayville recently donated around a dozen boxes/baskets full of needed items to Mercy Center Ministries in Patchogue, a nonprofit that provides housing for homeless women and their children.

Boy Scout Todd Williams led the initiative, and collected essentials like paper towels, diapers, wipes, and more. The donations will support Mercy Center Ministries Inc. for months to come, according to Jennifer Hill, associate director at Mercy Center Ministries Inc.

“Anytime they [the women at Mercy Center Ministries] receive donations, it just reminds them of how much the community cares,” Hill said. “It reminds them that they are seen.”

Williams and his troop collected the items for a few weeks and spent a day organizing the items into wrapped baskets for the women at Mercy Center Ministries. After finding Mercy Center Ministries online, Williams said he wanted to organize a supplies drive for the organization.

“I thought it would be a nice thing to do,” Williams said.

Mercy Center Ministries Inc. operates three shelters: one in Blue Point and Sayville for young women with children, and another in Patchogue for adult women without children. The organization has a list of items they always need, including toiletries, baby needs, and hygiene products.
