A jhalmuri vendor from West Bengal’s Jhargram whose stall PM Narendra Modi visited during his election campaign in the district has alleged that he has been receiving death threats ever since the election results were announced. The vendor, identified as Vikram Sau, runs a small jhalmuri stall near College More in Jhargram. During his election campaign tour in the region, PM Modi had briefly stopped at the stall and was served the popular Bengali snack by Sau. The moment had drawn significant local attention and videos of the interaction had circulated widely on social media at the time.

Now, Sau claims he has been living in fear after allegedly receiving threatening calls and messages. According to Sau, the first threatening phone call came on May 19 from a specific phone number. He alleged that this was followed by messages threatening to kill him. Though he did not publicly disclose the contents of all the messages, he said the threats left him deeply shaken.

Since the alleged incident, Sau has reportedly stopped sitting regularly at his shop despite keeping the stall open. Locals in the area said he appeared visibly frightened over the past few days.

The incident has triggered concern in the district, especially given the public visibility Sau received after the Prime Minister’s visit during the campaign period.

Officials said the West Bengal Police have started an investigation into the matter. The Jhargram district police are reportedly examining the phone number from which the alleged call was made and verifying the threatening messages received by the vendor.

No arrests have been reported so far.

The alleged threats come amid heightened political tensions in parts of West Bengal following the recently concluded elections.
