New Delhi:The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the schedule for the biennial elections to 24 seats of the Rajya Sabha across 10 states on June 18. As per the notification released by the ECI, former Prime Minister H. D. Devegowda and Union Ministers George Kurian and Ravneet Singh are among prominent leaders who are completing their terms next month.

"The term of office of 24 members of the Council of States elected from 10 States is due to expire in June-July 2026, as detailed in Annexure A," the EC said in the notification.

Out of the total seats where the elections will be held, four seats each are in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka; three seats each are in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh; two seats are in Jharkhand; and one seat each is in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.

As per the EC, the notification will be issued on the 1st of June, and the polling will be held on the 18th of June. The counting of votes will take place on the same day. The Commission also announced the Rajya Sabha bypoll for one seat each in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The seats are vacated by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar and AIADMK MP C V Shanmugam, who were recently elected to the State Assembly.

The Rahjya Sabha has a total strength of 245 members. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has 144 seats. The BJP is the largest party in the Upper House with 113 seats. The opposition has 75 seats, with 29 Congress members.. Meanwhile, others have 23 seats.
