Pima County Sheriff's Department Sheriff Chris Nanos has officially cleared the entire Guthrie family, including Tommaso Cioni, Annie Guthrie, siblings and spouses, as suspects in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. Nancy Guthrie, a Tucson resident and mother of Savannah Guthrie, vanished January 31, 2026, after a family dinner.
Addressing rampant online speculation portraying relatives as uncooperative, Sheriff Nanos said the family has been fully cooperative and described them as victims in the case. He called suggestions that the family may be involved “wrong” and “cruel,” urging the media to report with compassion and professionalism as the investigation continues.
In addition to Cioni, social media attention has also turned towards members of his former Tucson-based rock and post-punk band Early Black. The band, which formed in April 2007, consists of three founding members: Tommaso Cioni, bassist and vocalist; Dominic Evans, drummer and founding member; and Walter I. Gonçalves, Jr., guitarist and vocalist.

Surveillance footage previously captured a masked, armed intruder tampering with Nancy’s doorbell camera just hours before she disappeared. Investigators later discovered a glove nearby that matches the one seen in the footage. The item is now undergoing DNA analysis by the FBI.
Authorities have highlighted the difficulties that come with well-publicized missing persons cases, pointing out that unfounded rumors can hurt bereaved family members even more. While the investigation is ongoing, a $100,000 reward is still available, but authorities have cautioned that it may take years to find a solution.
