The Punjab Police have exposed an allegedspy networkin Pathankot and detained a man accused of leaking sensitive details related to Indian Army and paramilitary movements to operatives in Pakistan. The arrested man has been identified as Baljit Singh, a resident of Chakk Dhariwal village.
"Pathankot Police achieves a major breakthrough by busting a module linked to national security concerns. One accused has been arrested for installing a CCTV camera whose live feed was being shared with anti-national elements," the Pathankot Police said in an X post.
Preliminary investigation suggested that Singh had installed a CCTV camera at a shop located near a bridge on the National Highway-44 to allegedly keep an eye on the movement of the army and paramilitary forces, police said, as reported by news agency PTI. The police further revealed that he was transmitting the live feed to Pakistan-based handlers.
"A CCTV camera along with an internet WiFi router has been recovered during the operation. Pathankot Police remains committed to safeguarding national security and taking strict action against anti-national activities," the police added.
During questioning, the accused confessed that he had installed an internet-based CCTV camera at a shop on the NH-44 Pathankot-Jammu Highway in January. He was also getting directions from an unknown person in Dubai. He was given Rs 40,000, police claimed. Police recovered the CCTV camera from his possession, they said.
A senior Pathankot Police official said that three other people were also involved in the espionage racket. "One of them was providing logistics, and the other two people are residing abroad and are in touch with intelligence agencies," the official said.

The official further stated that two persons residing abroad are currently lodged in jail, and efforts are being made to bring them to India.
