The city of Santa Clarita is soon cutting the ribbon on a massive expansion of David March Park, and the centerpiece of the project is a grueling outdoor 116-stepexercise staircase— that leads to nothing.
While most people try to avoid an extra flight of stairs, the health-obsessed residents of this suburban enclave are treating the new vertical climb like the Holy Grail of cardio.
Social media previews and drone footage have already sparked excitement among locals who are eager to turn up their workout regimen.
“New way to get my steps,” one person commented on Instagram.
The staircase sits atop the newly renovated David March Park, which was named after Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy David March, who was killed in the line of duty in 2002.
After construction began in 2024 it was closed off in August 2025 to complete the 8-acre expansion of the park, which includes a lit basketball court, a baseball field with shaded stands, two new parking lots, a picnic pavilion and more.
“The City’s second exercise staircase, featuring 116 steps and scenic views, will provide a unique fitness challenge for residents,” noted a press release from thecity of Santa Clarita.
It comes in response to the immense popularity seen with the 172-step Central Park staircase nearby.
“There are people using them all day long,” one Yelp reviewed wrote online. “Such a great thing.”
