Sarah Abdul-Rassoul, a member of the Plainedge High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club, has been selected as one of 300 winners in the 9th–12th Grade Social Category of the first round of the Mott Million Dollar Challenge, earning a $250 prize.
The national competition, which awards a total of $1 million in prizes, is supported by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and powered by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), in collaboration with VentureLab, the Young Entrepreneur Institute, the Afterschool Alliance and Collaborative Communications.
Students were tasked with developing a business idea addressing a social or community issue, clearly identifying the problem and proposing a solution.
Abdul-Rassoul’s concept, “Proof Over Prestige,” proposes a verified, skills-based student transcript that goes beyond traditional grades to include community service, soft skills and other non-academic performance measures.
She will advance to the next round of the competition, with semifinalists eligible for a live pitch event in Michigan. A total of 60 winners will be announced in the coming weeks, with finalists scheduled for release in June.
